“Having a strong passion for the work we do in life has a lot to do with our well-being.”

Vanessa G.
Communications Intern
Arizona Dept of Health Services

Not all students go to college knowing exactly what they want to do with their lives. Vanessa, for instance, ended up switching her major back and forth between Business, Nursing and Communications because she has such strong interest in each of these areas. Then, when a communications internship came up with the Arizona Department of Health Services, she thought it would be the ideal way to tie all of her interests together. At ADHS she participates on a wide range of health issues that the department deals with on a daily basis. Her work includes both short and long term projects involving different forms of social media and communications.

Says Vanessa, “I was looking for an internship that would help me better prepare myself for the real world after college. My supervisor is a great teacher and role model, and what I’m learning as an intern will be extremely helpful for my future career.”

To future interns she offers this advice, “There are many wonderful intern opportunities at the state. Don’t be afraid to explore the possibilities of what you really want to do with your life.”
